Professor Henry Reynolds – Code Of Silence

Why don’t more Victorians know about the massacres that happened during colonisation? Perhaps because even talking about it at the time was taboo.

“You couldn’t talk about it, you didn’t have to hold a gun but you had to hold your tongue.”

Professor Henry Reynolds told Commissioners at last week’s Yoorrook Justice hearings that locals knew about the massacres but “so much of what happened got covered by a very, very powerful code of silence.”
